Do you have a few hours per month or know a group that would like to help the HSLC?

There are many other ways you can help the HSLC. If you can give just a few hours each month, we can find a way for you to contribute and feel good about helping the animals at our shelter. Do you have a group that would like to set up a fundraiser? Are you hosting an event that would offer an opportunity to raise awareness and donations for homeless pets in our community? Maybe you would just like to spend a little time away from your normal routine and look into the eyes of a grateful animal companion? Or, maybe you're looking for ways to spend quality family time together? There are lots of ways kids can help too! Let's get creative! Here are some ideas to help you get started.

Organize an Event

  • Hold a supply drive using our Wish List
  • Garage Sale to help the HSLC
  • Bowling, walking, running, swimming, or biking Event (solicit pledges)
  • Hold an Art Benefit (showcase artwork by local artists or children)
  • Bake Sale to benefit the HSLC
  • Car Wash to donate funds to HSLC
  • Birthday party in honor of the homeless animals (gifts could be donations of supplies or money)
  • Throw a "Shower" to help the new kittens and puppies in the shelter (gifts could be donations of supplies or money)
  • Have a can and bottle drive (Cans for Critters!)

Be Creative

  • Sew quilts or blankets (make sure string/yarn cannot come loose)
  • Build a "Cat Tree" for shelter cats
  • Make pretty (and handsome!) bandannas for the dogs
  • Sew small cat nip "pillows"
  • Come help to garden around the HSLC during the spring or summer
Educate Others
  • Create materials or a program that includes one or more of these topics:
    • Why people should adopt from shelters
    • Benefits of spaying and neutering pets
    • Proper pet care
    • Places to go to adopt a pet (Animal Shelters/Humane Societies)
    • The problem of Pet-Overpopulation
  • Make posters to place around community areas or schools
  • Create a presentation for another group of students or community members
  • Lead an activity for children to learn about pet care and homeless pets

Learn more about the HSLC and homeless animals

  • Schedule a tour. This would include a short educational session and also a chance to see all the adoptable animals.
  • Visit the shelter and ask questions
  • Pick-up a copy of the most recent HSLC newsletter
  • Find out more information about the HSLC volunteer program
  • Attend our Events
  • Stop in and visit!

Thank you so much for letting our troop come to the HSLC. It was a first-time visit for many of us and we have a greater appreciation for what it takes to care for the many animals who find their way to you. Girl Scout Troop 460
