A Very Special Thank You to...
Special thanks to Justin Henderson and his Eagle Scout Project Team...
This young Eagle Scout Candidate led a team of enthusiastic scouts from Troop 228 of South Lyon and Troop 1826 from the Northville area to build several structures for our new cage-free cat rooms! Justin is also an HSLC volunteer and after doing some initial research, he proposed ideas that would give our adoptable cats a comfortable, safe environment and also meet our cleaning requirements. Justin then planned the project and led his team to complete the units at our shelter just in time for our cats to enjoy as they move out of cages into our new cage-free rooms.
Justin's family tells us he has always had a strong love and respect for animals. In addition to leading this project, he also made a generous, personal donation of money that he earned from working on a farm and cutting lawns this spring. We are very honored and grateful that Justin chose the HSLC for his Eagle Scout project. Job well done everyone! |

Bethany Arsenault and her kindergarten class at Lakeland Elementary school
for all your efforts to support the HSLC Campaign for Cats
during your "2011 Bucket Filler" fundraiser! |
 |
| The kids made sock toys for our cats and kittens and the whole school collected "buckets full" of wish list items for our homeless pets including food, toys, blankets, supplies, AND over $500 in cash donations to help build cage-free cat rooms at our shelter! Mrs. Arsenault is very passionate about helping students learn more about respecting and caring for animals. We really appreciate her help in creating more awareness for our Campaign for Cats project! And, we can always count on the kids to INSPIRE US by showing their LOVE for the animals! The 5th Grade Class at
Southeast Elementary in Howell
Thanks to all our friends at Southeast Elementary who collected donations last spring for our homeless pets including food, toys, treats, blankets, and towels.
Pictured here, left to right, are Mya, Alayna, and Ella who recently delivered the items to our shelter and told us how much they care about helping homeless pets and enjoy supporting the HSLC. Alayna has been a volunteer at the HSLC this past year and has become a true advocate for our pets. She organized the fundraiser and worked with Ella who is on the student council to involve the whole school to help with donations. She also organized a gift exchange at Christmas time for the whole class to donate gifts to help homeless pets.
You are true friends to the many deserving homeless pets...
keep up the great work, girls!

Boy Scouts Hard at Work for the HSLC!
Many thanks to Sam Walsh and his boy scout troop for volunteering to mulch our beds on the grounds of the shelter this past June.
Sam, who is working on his Eagle Scout badge put together a project plan and recruited all the boys to help put over 25 yards of mulch around the grounds and along the walking paths at our shelter. It was a BIG JOB and the beds look great! |

Our friends, Jillian and Mary Grace…
Thanks so much!
Excellent work girls!
On June 11, 2011, Mary Grace Buzolits and Jillian Barnowsky from Charyl Stockwell Academy in Howell donated money they earned in their project for Spanish class. The girls chose to collect money for the Humane Society of Livingston County by collecting bottles and cans, taking them to the recycling center, and donating the bottle refund money to us. They made a Powerpoint presentation for the class about their work, written in Spanish. Here they proudly display their receipt for their donation.
Muchísimas gracias!
Chicas excelente trabajo!

Act2 Theatre Company and the AMAZING cast and crew of
CATS
at Pinckney Community High School |
 |
Thank you and congratulations to Mr. Rob Roy, Producer/Director of Act2 Theatre Company and the amazing cast and crew of the musical CATS at Pinckney Community High School for making the HSLC part of this very successful event. The hard work and dedication of this very talented team clearly paid off based on the full house and excitement at each of their 5 performances. A portion of ticket sales from the March 25th performance was donated to the HSLC to support our Campaign for Cats. Their generous donation of $1000 will be recognized with a custom engraved tile to be permanently displayed when our new cat rooms are built. This was a PURR-fect way for the community to support deserving local students and homeless cats. Well done! See more photos>>

| Mrs. Golin, Mrs. Smith and their 3rd grade students at Pinckney Elementary |
| The 3rd graders at Pinckney Elementary recently donated a school bus load of supplies to the HSLC -- over 600 items! The students did a GREAT JOB collecting supplies needed on our Wish List for 2 weeks. They made posters, gave speeches, and passed out fliers. This was a service learning project for the students' reading unit about some amazing animals of which most were adopted from shelters! Their generous teachers, Mrs. Golin and Mrs. Smith, paid for a bus to transport all the goods and students to visit our facility to meet some of the animals and deliver all the goodies. This was a very rewarding experience for the students and we THANK YOU all for the many useful donations to help our homeless pets! |

"Apaws-Apaws" to "Cool Cats" at Country Elementary
for supporting our Campaign for Cats! |
| A very special THANK YOU to our friends Sue Proos, Catherine Potoff, and the third grade classes at Country Elementary in Pinckney who raised over $100 to support our Campaign for Cats! These inspired students surpassed their original fundraising goal through their Quarters for Cats service learning project from September-December 2010. They even named their room the “Cool Cats!” We hope you will all be able to visit our shelter soon for a tour and meet some of the “Cool Cats” you helped! |

Rebecca Schmitter for organizing the "Music for Mutts" Fundraiser |
A very special thank you to Rebecca Schmitter who organized "Music for Mutts", a youth concert held at the Howell Opera House to benefit the Humane Society of Livingston County. Rebecca is a National Honor Society student at Pinckney Community High School and is active in the local music community. Her family adopted a very special dog from the HSLC three years ago, so she knows how much our homeless pets need love and support. We applaud Rebecca’s creative and generous efforts plus would like to thank the following local artists who donated their time and talents for the fundraiser: (pictured in top/right photo below, left to right) Jeff Pianki, Rival Summers, Kept on Hold, (Rebecca), Bella and the Pelican, and Miles Before Sleep (not pictured).
Apaws-apaws to all of you!

Kevin and his lemonade stand… a special boy with a generous heart!
|
 |
My 7 year old son Kevin is a precocious little boy with a huge heart, especially when it comes to animals. He informed me one day recently that he was going to "sell lemonade to help animals who are sick or hungry"....
He decorated a large box, made signs, made the lemonade (with my help), and set up shop at the end of our street one afternoon. He earned $65.23 that day for his cause. He gave $15.00 to his favorite teacher for her cat, who is ill and requires special treatments, and he is now donating the remaining $50.23 to the Humane Society of Livingston County.
I couldn't be more proud to be his mom.
Thanks for the opportunity to share this story.
Regards,
Liz Wilmott

Special Thanks to Troop 2049 for supporting our pets!
The Girl Scout's Pinckney Hamburg Lakeland Area - Troop 2049 collected recycled socks from the community and turned them into over 380 toys for the dogs and cats at the Humane Society of Livingston County. The toys were made by taking old socks and stuffing them with cat-nip or tennis balls. The Brownie Scouts hope to help bring a little bit of joy to the animals waiting for adoption at the shelter. The troop was able to share some toys with the animals on a visit to the shelter on April 24, 2010. Good Job Brownies!

Special thanks to Fowlerville Junior High School Students
for helping HSLC homeless pets!
Autumn Cybart recently approached her 8th grade Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Miller, and asked if she could encourage her class to donate money to the Humane Society of Livingston County. She wanted to do something after watching several commercials on animal abuse. Autumn organized a donation and supply drive for her class and it was a big success! Approximately $140 and several animal toys were donated from Autumn and her classmates. Way to go, Autumn!

Autumn Cybart, Sarah Mews from the HSLC, and Lily!

Congratulations to Brownie Girl Scout Troop #1818 and Scout Leader, Beth Peterson from Creekside Elementary in Hartland for reaching their goal to sponsor an HSLC animal cage by raising money with their "Pennies for Pets" booth! The girls brought in their donations, got a tour of the facility, and even gave out handmade toys to each of the cats, kittens, and dogs! All of our shelter animals appreciate your efforts.
Keep up the great work girls! See More Photos >>
