Showcasing cats is an activity that brings joy to children and adults. It is incredibly exciting and brings people together. For educational purposes, children should be encouraged to show their pets. Shows also help breeders get an idea of what cats inherit from their parents.
Better to start by visiting a local cat show. Go there with the whole family – everyone will enjoy it. It is quite possible that you will see many of those adorable creatures that are depicted in the pages of this book. If, after viewing, you wake up with a desire to become the owner of a purebred cat, you will surely find kittens with a pedigree at the exhibition that you can buy; otherwise, most of the owners of the displayed animals will have kittens at home or they will tell you where to get them. Usually experienced cat lovers are happy to help a newbie and guide him in the first steps related to buying a kitten, participating in a show, and then in breeding. You may have to wait some time to get a kitten of a rare breed that has the qualities necessary to participate in the exhibition, but the wait is worth it: there is no point in exhibiting an animal of not the highest merits or getting offspring from it.
If you only intend to expose the cat, but not to breed, it is best to neuter it. (Unlike dogs, cats with removed testes or ovaries can be exhibited.) Then both male and female will suit you. Otherwise, your first cat should be a female: only an experienced breeder who has already kept several breeding females can have a sire.
If you want to seriously engage in breeding work, you should think about a special prefix (prefix) – the name of the cattery, which will automatically be added to the name of all kittens that come out of it. This name must be registered with the organizing board or cat fancier association operating within your country. With common sense, as well as the ability to comprehend the basics of practical genetics, you can easily establish breeding champions and become a famous breeder.
